Activity


Department of Testing and Development of Sowing, Fertilizing and Plant Protection Machines is established for conducting the research in area of plants protection, seeding and a precise fertilizing techniques. Considering the latest projects and expertise knowledge of team members the Department deals with implementation of mechatronics and other innovative solutions in electronics for precise controlling of agricultural machines. The computer modelling and simulations is also very important branch of our activity. Department of Testing and Development of Sowing, Fertilizing and Plant Protection Machines conducts following research and development works:

  • developing and designing of new machines, particularly for: sowing, fertilization, plant protection and melioration,
  • technical expertises and tests performed jointly with ENTAM network in area of testing sprayers and atomizers,
  • supervision over the sprayers control stations at the request of Polish Main Inspectorate of Plant Health and Seed Inspection (PIORiN),
  • running of the exemplary Sprayer Control Station,- consulting on engineering and technology of precision farming.
  • designing and simulations with CAD 3D techniques, in the theme covered by team activities,
  • developing of electronic steering and implementation of mechatronic solutions in machines for sowing, fertilizing and plant protection,

The Department cooperates with SME conducting for them research financed by national funds allocated for science. The Department cooperates among others with firms from agricultural branch, universities and other research institutes.

In the area of sowing techniques the Department conducts following research:

  • Functional tests of row and point seeders consisting in assessment of sowing quality in laboratory and field conditions as well as assessment of longitudinal and transversal irregularity.
  • Determination of seeder characteristics including: robust, seeds quantity, volume of seed’s tank etc.
  • Determination of seed’s characteristics consisting in measurement of: humidity, density, angle of repose, mass of 1000 seeds (MTZ), content of contaminations etc.
  • Determination of characteristics of ventilators for pneumatic seeders.
  • Developing and implementation of modern techniques in sowing including precise steering with using GPS.

In the area of fertilizing techniques the Department conducts following research:

  • Functional testing of mineral fertilisers spreaders especially measuring following characteristics, such as: the expenditure of the mineral fertilizer dispensed from spreader orifice, measuring of the transverse irregularity of fertilizer on the waist of spreading, determining of granulometric composition and humidity of fertilizer, determining of angle of fertilizer repose, determining the working width of spreader etc.;
  • Preparing the spreading tables for tested mineral fertilizers and spreaders,
  • Developing and implementation of modern techniques in fertilizing and localized fertilizing including precise steering with using GPS,
  • Functional testing of manure spreaders for compliance with environmental standards, consisting in examination of the transverse and longitudinal distribution, determining of unitary flow of manure and determining of working width, etc.

In the area of plant protection technique Department conducts following research:

  • Functional testing of sprayers for compliance with environmental standards according to the ENTAM methodology, which includes an evaluation of state of all assemblies such as: transversal irregularity, deviation of tank scaling, remains of residues of working fluid, the effectiveness of mixers work, etc.;
  • Testing of characteristics of sprayer’s pumps, including determining of pumps characteristics as a function of rotation and pressure as well as the determining of the flow rate and power consumption. Tests are conducted using a measuring stand for sprayer’s pumps testing Herbst ROT 650/60/40/10;
  • Functional testing of sprayers according to the applicable ISO and EN norms (methodology ENTAM), including the determining for sprayer’s nozzles of the transversal irregularity as a function of pressure and height position above the sprayed surface as well as spray angle and size of drops in function of pressure;

In the area of plant protection technique Department conducts following research c.d:

  • Testing of the on-board computers for sprayers according to ISO and EN standards including measuring of computer reaction on changes on working conditions, eg.: tractor speed, rotational speed of pump shaft, on/off switching of individual spraying sections, etc. The tests of on-board computers for sprayers are carried on dedicated testing stand;
  • Drop’s size measurement in aerosols carried out on the Malvern Spraytec device equipped with laser. Measurement is done in two ranges 0.1 ÷ 900 µm and 1 ÷ 2000 µm and the recording of rapid changes of atomization processes in real time is possible with sampling frequency of 2.5 kHz.
  • The authorized sprayer control station operates at the team.

The Department has a complete set of modern research equipment, which guarantees carrying out the work in accordance with applicable standards.
